Brown To Release Budget Update

Sacramento, CA — California has a growing $3-billion surplus, so Governor Jerry Brown is planning to release a revised spending plan this week.

Democratic leaders have stated that they would like to restore funding for services that have been cut over the past decade. Leaders in the Assembly and Senate would like to see increased money going towards child care, higher education and other social programs.

The Associated Press reports that Brown, however, would like to see a large share shifted into the state’s rainy day fund. He would also like to see additional money going towards public schools and community colleges. The Governor’s projected budget is currently $113-billion.

Increased revenue projections are due to an improving economy in many areas of the state.
