Community Drought Forum Tonight

Sonora, CA — Dried up wells, emergency services offered and the drought outlook in Tuolumne County are some of the water issues that will discussed tonight at a public forum beginning at 6:30 pm.

Darrell Slocum, Outreach Advocate for ATCAA, was Wednesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

The Tuolumne County Office of Emergency Services organized a total of five forums. Four of them have already taken place and tonight is the final Community Drought Forum.

Tonight’s Forum takes place in Sonora at the Board of Supervisor Chambers located at 2 South Green Street, on the 4th floor.

According to Slocum, “The purpose of the forums is that we can provide an update on the current water situation in Tuolumne County as well as the resources available to those who are experiencing problems specifically related to wells.  That is our biggest issue right now; wells are going dry throughout the county.”

Slocum also said that having the forums is one of the ways to hear directly from the people affected by the drought to get a more global picture of what is happening in regards to water in the county.  Last year, the county held similar forums surrounding the water restrictions due to the drought.

All of the Community Drought Forums have been organized by the Tuolumne County Office of Emergency Services, T.U.D. and ATCAA. Some of the panel members will also include Supervisors, Tuolumne County Environmental Health, CAL Fire, Tuolumne County Fire, the Tuolumne County Ag Commissioner, Tuolumne County Public Health, Groveland Community Services District and Twain Harte Community Services District.

The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard every weekday morning on AM 1450 at 6:45, 7:45 and 8:45 AM.
