Sonora Regional Medical Center Hosts Heart Fest

In recognition of American Heart Month, Sonora Regional Medical Center (SRMC) is hosting Heart Fest 2015, a heart health event for the community.

Lindsay Brewer, SRMC Director of Marketing, was Thursday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

Heart Fest will be held this afternoon (Thursday) to the general public from 4 to 5 p.m. and then from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Education Center, which is the former Andy’s Home Center located at 900 Mono Way, Sonora.

There will be live entertainment with exercise/dance instruction, educational booths, a lecture by cardiologist Eric Hemminger, MD, and a giant walk-through Mega Heart exhibit. Attendees will be able to step inside the human heart and learn about cardiovascular functions, observe examples of various types of heart disease and see displays of some of the latest medical treatments of heart problems.

In addition, several health screenings will be provided including: cholesterol ($15), blood pressure, height/weight, body fat analysis, and carbon monoxide. For those who participate in the screenings, a Framingham score will be provided to predict 10-year risk for cardiovascular disease. If you have had a recent blood test, please bring your cholesterol results with you.

Music, dancing, educational booths and screenings, and the walk-through heart exhibit will be available from 4 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 7 p.m. A lecture and free dinner is available for those who already made reservations from 5 to 6 p.m.

For more information call 209-536-5021.

The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard every weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:45, 7:45 and 8:45 AM.
