Volleyball Parade Joyful Despite Rain

Sonora, CA — Despite the rain Washington street was lined with people celebrating Sonora High School’s State Championship Volleyball winners. Sonora Principal Pat Chabot said to Head Volleyball Coach Kim Evans “Thank you Kim, for these wonderful trophies! This one is so big I’m not sure it will fit in the display case in the gym foyer. Maybe we should build a new trophy case just for this.” Principal Chabot mentioned three new banners will be displayed in the school gym. He says, “No other sport team from Sonora High has ever won NorCal; you are the first.” Chabot and Evans thanked the Sonora Golden Regiment Band, Chabot said “otherwise known as the “Most Awesome Band in the Universe” deserves some recognition here today also. …We thank you, we’re proud of you, we support you and we love you.” Coach Evans says “It was a difficult year with lots of injuries… but we just kept persevering and these kids just wanted it so bad, it was just amazing!” Evans notes that seven of the team members are seniors so next year will be team building.

Chabot’s full speech with a recap of the season is featured as a myMotherLode blog. Chabot also summed up the school’s sports this year; “Every sports team this fall made playoffs. Our soccer team made playoffs. Both our boys and girls waterpolo teams made playoffs. Our Girls Golf had two girls make playoffs. Our cross country team made it to post season meets and one of our students, Cassie Land, ended up in 8th place at the state meet. Our football team was undefeated in league and at home and made it all the way to the section finals. Congratulations to all of them.”
