IRS Scam

Sonora, CA – It is a scam that has been hitting the country and now the Mother Lode.

The thieves are counting on the fear that comes with hearing, “This is the IRS” to get you to hand over your hard earned money.   A Sonora resident, who was contacted by the scam artists, recorded the phone call.

A male with a heavy accent says, “The matter at the hand is extremely time sensitive and urgent. After an audit, we found that there was a fraud and misconduct on your taxes which you are hiding from the federal government.”

The caller asks for the situation to be rectified immediately by getting personal banking information or credit card information.  Sonora Police Chief Mark Stinson says the department has received reports of the scam.  He advises you to hang up and report the call to the police immediately.
