Delta Tunnels Delay

Sacramento, CA — Water Officials want more revisions to the $25 billion proposal to build two water diversion tunnels in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.

Today, the Department of Water Resources (DWR) says more planning is need on the project. DWR officials say they will work with state and federal agencies to revise parts of the drafts, which will then be reissued next year for additional public comment. That additional work will push a final decision on the tunnels into 2015. A final decision was originally scheduled for late this year.

The proposal is to build two 30-mile-long tunnels under the Sacramento-San Joaquin delta to divert water from the Sacramento River into existing pumping facilities.
