Berryhill’s Reaction To Zero Water Allocation Message

Senator Tom Berryhill (R-Twain Harte) reacted to the announcement by state and federal water officials that water deliveries to agricultural and municipal water users south of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta will drop to zero percent due to the state’s severe drought.

Berryhill was Friday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

According to Berryhill, “This is a very disturbing turn of events that completely disregards the real needs of people in the Central Valley and agriculture, a multi-billion dollar industry that provides thousands of jobs to people in that region. I am appalled that California has allowed our water problems to devolve to this level.

The term “rainy day fund” has a completely different meaning when California, faced with an historic drought, has let water run into the ocean for years. If we had the additional water storage we need, we might not be facing a zero allocation from the federal government and communities in the Central Valley would not be faced with undrinkable water.

While the government’s action is not totally unexpected, it absolutely highlights the need for immediate action. We need both short and long term solutions but there is little doubt we need something now. The Legislature must get a comprehensive water plan before the voters this year.”

The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard every weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:45, 7:45 and 8:45am.
