Sonora, CA — The Forest Service will shut down seasonal roads and trails in the Stanislaus National Forest. Designated areas will be off limits to the public starting Monday until April 14th of next year. Forest officials say the seasonal closures are for resource protection and public safety.
Public Services Program Leader Sue Warren says, “It is that time of year when the roads and trails are too wet to travel on without causing damage to the soil and the roads and trails themselves. Due to recent low snow and rain, some roads may be gated now to provide for safe travel.”
Warren cautions forest roads are not maintained during the winter so if you get stranded, you could be sitting there awhile. You can click here for Motor Vehicle Use maps. The maps are also available at all Forest and Ranger District offices.
