Sonora, CA — Tuolumne County has given contractors 48 hour to come up with the bids to repair Rim Fire damage which could cause flooding. The Tuolumne County Supervisors held a special meeting last night and unanimously voted in favor of getting new bids.
Just last week, the Board of Supervisors approved an $145K contract with Ford Construction to make emergency repairs to Ackerson Creek Crossing, due to a projected three-times the normal rate of water run-off this winter, that could wash away a stretch of Evergreen Road. However, when that was approved the final engineer’s repair plans had not been completed. Now, the engineers estimate on repairs has jumped to $277,000.
Tuolumne County Community Resources Agency Director Bev Shane says, “We received a proposal from the contractor that exceeded our estimate. So the county decided to do a short bid process after all. The Board of Supervisors modified their authorization to the county administrator.” Shane adds this will allow them to not just enter a contract with a specific contractor, but will; “give him full authority to enter into any contract, and other associated efforts, to get that project completed as quickly as possible.”
Shane says the bids are due Wednesday at noon. They hope to award a contract by the end of this week.
