State Up, Mother Lode Down

Sacramento, CA — The unemployment rate edged up in California, but the Mother Lode bucked that trend. Tuolumne County’s rate during August was 8.7%, as opposed to 9.2% in July. Calaveras County’s rate was 9.9% last month, compared to 10.4% in July. Statewide, California’s rate increased from 8.7% to 8.9%.

Sectors that posted the largest job declines were mining and logging and government. Areas that posted job gains include transportation and utilities, professional and business services, educational and health services, construction and hospitality. The statistics were compiled by the California Employment Development Department.
