Forest Plan Appeal Denied By Forest Service Chief

Friday, the Chief of the US Forest Service denied an appeal of the Sierra Nevada Forest Plan. The Plan, which calls for the removal of a percentage of smaller trees in the National Forests of the Sierras, has been hotly debated by California lumber operators who want larger trees to be included in the Plan.

The removal is one way the Forest Service has in mind to reduce devastating wild fires in Sierra National Forests. The US Department of Agriculture now has two weeks to review the decision. If not approved, the issue could go to the courts.
