A study by the state Employment Development Department says California´s unemployment rate has grown from 5.4 percent to 5.7 percent in October.
The spike comes as many of the nation´s businesses have cut production and laid-off many of their employees as a result of the lagging economy.
The study adds that about one million Californians have been unable to find work.
