Intel Giant Makes Donation

Intel co-founder Gordon Moore´s latest startup is the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, a 4.6 billion philanthropic organization.

The foundation, just a year old, focuses on higher education, medical and scientific research and environmental causes, especially biodiversity and local concerns. Its endowment will eventually come from a pool of 175 million shares of Intel stock.

Moore is one of America´s wealthiest, with a 5.3 billion

fortune consisting mostly of Intel stock.

The foundation just announced a 600 million dollar donation to the California Institute of Technology over the next 10 years. It has also awarded about 8 million dollars in quote “exploratory grants” to possible long-term recipients.

The foundation is Moore´s second. There´s also the Moore Family Foundation, an organization with 45 million dollars in assets.
