Tuolumne Utility District Battling Rust

The long hot summer has Tuolumne Utility District crews busy this week. Rusty sediments from the upper
end of the local water system has been making its way into the faucets of several residences in the area. According to TUD officials this is normal–just not in
October. Normally, the steel pipe that carries water into town is flushed in January, when water usage is low, to clear the sediment. But due to the extended hot
weather this year, usage remains high, causing the sediments to appear early this year.

Officials stress the water is safe as the utility is considering
changing its policy to flushing the system twice a year.
