Student Cell Phone Use Could Change

Cell phones have been a no-no at California schools since 1988, when legislators passed a law aimed at stopping drug sales among students. That all changes Wednesday with a new law that lets schools decide for themselves if their students can carry cell phones.

Senator Liz Figueroa introduced the bill. She says that in an emergency such as Columbine, students with cell phones can call 9-1-1 and help law enforcement figure out where the attackers are. Still, some school districts say they´re worried about abuse.
