Plane Crash Victim Satellite TV Pioneer

A pioneer in the satellite television industry and his adult stepson have died in a plane crash in Calaveras County.

Seventy-year-old Henry Taylor Howard and his 37-year-old stepson Brian Files were pronounced dead shortly after the 1 p.m. accident at the Calaveras County Airport. Sheriff´s Sergeant Kevin Anderson says Howard was piloting the Beechcraft when it went down shortly after takeoff. A third man, 37-year-old Dean Hollingsworth, was injured. He was airlifted to a hospital in Modesto but his condition was not available.

The Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Association, of which Howard was a founding member, says Howard created the first known home satellite television system in 1976. He also was a professor emeritus of electrical engineering at Stanford University.
