Wines To Display Organic Grape Labels

Wines made with organic grapes will soon display that fact on their labels. But some warn it could be more confusing than helpful. The new seals will debut this week as part of regulations designated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. U.C. Davis agriculture adviser Glenn McGourty says the labels will likely be useful but confusing because seals are already crowded with information. The seal reading “Organic Wine” means there are no sulfites added. The seal “Made with Organic Grapes” means there may be up to 100 parts per million of sulfites added. However, both labels mean the wine is made without hormones, pesticides or other chemicals.
