Governor Signs Tough Smog Bill

Bay area vehicle owners will face tougher smog check requirements under a bill signed by Governor Gray Davis

Friday. It adds the Bay Area to other areas of the state where the tighter smog controls are already in place.

While the new law puts the Bay Area under the blanket of stricter smog regulations, it also adds more exemptions statewide. The new law expands the smog check exemption period for new cars from four to six years.
