Bakersfield Prosecutor Stabbed To Death

The Kern County sheriff’s office says that a longtime assistant district attorney who was killed at his home, died sometime in a one-to-three day period before his body was discovered. The body of assistant DA Stephen Tauzer was found in the garage of his home by a friend yesterday afternoon. At a news conference late this morning, Sheriff Carl Sparks expressed confidence that a suspect or suspects will be arrested. Sheriff’s Office Commander Marty Williamson says a search of Tauzer’s home was conducted in an effort to find evidence connected to the murder. The Bakersfield Californian reported that Tauzer had been stabbed at least once in the chest, and a knife was found at the murder scene. Tauzer had served as an assistant district attorney in Kern County since 1988, and prosecuted several high-profile cases.
