Davis Signs Tenant Bill

Governor Gray Davis has signed a bill requiring landlords to give their long-term month-to-month tenants at least 60 days to move out. That´s twice the traditional 30-day notices. Sponsors of the bill say 30 days often is not enough for the elderly, disabled or families trying to keep their children in the same schools. The bill applies only to tenants who have rented with the landlord longer than a year. The bill also blocks landlords from evicting tenants by saying they are selling the property, then renting to someone else at a higher rate.
