State Office Burglarized

The CHP is continuing their investigation into an apparent break-in at the governor´s Office of Planning and Research across from the state Capitol. CHP Commissioner “Spike” Helmick says a janitor in the building noticed that many of the desks in offices on all three floors, including the director´s office, had been rummaged through. Desks had been moved and papers strewn about. He says an open street-level window in an alley may have been the point of entry. The OPR works on long-range land use planning for the Governor´s Office. It also coordinates several environmental programs between state and local governments. Helmick says there was no evidence that the incident is related to Gov. Gray Davis´ re-election campaign.
