Lightning Fires Burn In Emigrant Wilderness

A pair of lightning-caused wildfires are burning this afternoon within the Emigrant Wilderness about 5-miles southwest of Kennedy Meadows Resort. Smoke can be seen from Relief Reservoir.

A U.S. Forest Service spokesman says the fires are less than a tenth of an acre in size each and are being allowed to burn as a way to reduce build-up of pine needles and other natural ground debris. U.S. Forest crews are closely monitoring the two fires.
