Cheney Visits Miramar Troops

Vice President Dick Cheney stopped at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego today in his first visit to California in office. Cheney spoke to 25-hundred Marines and their families at the base.

Miramar was the home base for all nine Marines killed during the war in Afghanistan.

Cheney paid tribute to their sacrifice, saying “the families of all these Marines can be forever proud.” Cheney says the nine fallen Marines “have an honored place in our nation´s memory.”

After his remarks, the vice president had lunch with the troops at the base cafeteria, then left for a private function.

Lance Corporal Matthew Rock, who was one of six Marines who shared lunch with the vice president described Cheney as “a great guy, just like a father.”
