No Parole For Serial Killer

A Santa Cruz serial killer who murdered eight women, including his mother, in the 1970s will remain in prison for another five years. Edmund Kemper was scheduled for a parole hearing Wednesday, but he has notified prison officials that he will not be attending. His next parole hearing will be in 2007. Kemper killed seven women and his mother in 1972 and 1973. He says his parole consideration would become a media event. He also says public sentiment does not support the release of a serial murderer.

At the age of 15 Kemper murdered his grandparents and was committed as a juvenile to Atascadero State Hospital. He was released five years later.
