CHP Shooting Could Be Accidental

Authorities are looking into an apparent accidental shooting that claimed the life of a California Highway Patrol officer in Weaverville.

A CHP spokesman says the shooting is believed to be the result of a gun going off by accident. He says the body of Officer Rob Coulter was found around 9:30 yesterday morning in the parking lot of the Weaverville office.

The 14-year CHP veteran began his shift yesterday at 6 a.m. He was married with two children, ages 10 and 14.

The incident is being investigated by the CHP and the Trinity County Sheriff´s Department. No other details were available.
