State Lawmakers Still At Work

It´s been a long day´s night for state lawmakers.

California legislators are still in session this morning trying to wrap up their 2003 session. The session was scheduled to end yesterday but long agendas, long debates, and frequent caucuses extended the work past midnight.

Just a little while ago, Assembly Republicans stalked off the floor when Democrats voted to shut down debate on a seemingly minor measure.

Bills that have already been approved include a package of measures designed to improve the state´s system of treating job-related injuries.

The Senate has also passed a bill to make many employers offer health insurance to their 1.2 million workers who still lack coverage. The Assembly voted hours later to approve the bill. But full passage has been held up by a parliamentary maneuver.
