Watch For Flash Floods

A flash flood watch is in effect today and this evening for the Eastern Sierra Nevada, northeastern California and western Nevada.

The National Weather Service in Reno says moist, unstable air is expected to cause scattered thunderstorms with heavy rain this afternoon into this evening. The flash flood watch in effect until 9 p.m. says the thunderstorms could produce rainfall of more than one inch per hour. The greatest threat of flash flooding is below steep terrain of northeastern and east-central California and western Nevada along canyons and normally-dry washes. Mud and debris slides also are possible due to expected heavy rain.
