22 Archaeological Sites Found In Sonora Bypass Project

A scientist with Caltrans says 22 separate verified archaeological sites have been found during excavation work for the Sonora Bypass project.

Dr. Richard Levy told the Tuolumne County Historical Society last night that the sites contain things like ancient hearths, pans, arrowheads and dart points. Some of the artifacts, he says, are possibly four thousand years old.

The 22 sites have been found in the excavation between Sanquentti and Standard roads, in preparation for the Highway 108 bypass.
