DA Ready for SFPD Trial

San Francisco´s district attorney says he´s ready to go to trial to prove a coverup in the police department even though he told grand jurors he lacked evidence. Excerpts of the grand jury transcripts were leaked to members of the news media.

The transcripts show that DA Terence Hallinan told jurors that he chose not to seek indictments on obstruction charges because his office wasn´t able to find “who agreed with who to do what.”

But last week, the grand jury added the names of Chief Earl Sanders, Assistant Chief Alex Fagan Senior, and other top officers to the indictment. Jurors also added more conspiracy charges to the indictment.

A spokesman for the DA says Hallinan´s office believes it has a case.
