CSU Officials Dealing With Record Enrollment

As the Cal State university system grapples with record enrollment, its governing board took steps today to expand campus access and streamline the path to a bachelor´s degree.

Trustees of the nation´s largest public university system considered a resolution that would require Cal State´s 23 campuses to expand summer terms, schedule off-peak classes and develop satellite campuses. The trustees are expected to adopt the resolution at its next board meeting in May.

Enrollment has reached a record of nearly 407,000 students. C.S.U. officials have estimated enrollment could grow by another 100,000 students a year by 2011. Currently, the San Diego and Long Beach campuses are at capacity. A handful of others are nearing capacity or have overcrowded degree programs.
