Smoking in California is at historic lows. Governor Gray Davis has announced that after 14 years of anti-smoking campaigns the smoking rate among Californians has dropped to historic lows far below the national average.
Davis said the latest California Adult Tobacco Survey shows 16.6% of adults were smokers last year down from 17.3% in 2001.
There was an even bigger decline in smoking by young people in another survey that is conducted every 2 years.
