Tuolumne County is opposed to legislation being considered by state lawmakers that would would move the state primary from March to June.

Tuolumne County´s top elections official, County Clerk Tim Johnson, says under the proposal the state would have to hold three elections in presidential election years. Johnson says that could add as much as $75,000 to his department´s budget at a time when everyone is being asked to cut back.

The Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution Tuesday denouncing the idea.
