Lunar Eclipse This Week

For the first time in two years the San Francisco Bay area will be treated to a total eclipse of the moon Thursday night. The eclipse will be visible starting at 8:05 p.m.

A lunar eclipse occurs when the moon rises in the Earth´s shadow, which blocks the sun´s rays from reaching the moon´s surface. Astronomers say don´t worry if you miss this one. In an unusual turn of events, there will be another visible from the Bay Area this fall.
