Peak Electricity Record Set Monday

State energy officials say the state set a peak electricity record today.

The state´s Independent System Operator says the record came without dipping dangerously into reserves to trigger an emergency.

At 4:26 p-m, demand reached more than 44-thousand megawatts of electricity, breaking a record set on July 12th, 1999.

I-S-O spokeswoman Stephanie McCorkle says it´s remarkable the record was set without a major heat wave.

The I-S-O attributed the record to rising temperatures, a rebounding economy and the state´s rapid growth.

The I-S-O called for energy conservation as temperatures begin to heat up this week in Northern California.
