Perseid Meteor Shower Graces Mother Lode Skies

If ever there was a good reason to stay up late, tonight is the night. The Perseid Meteor Shower will best be seen tonight from 11 pm to dawn. The shower is a result of the Earth entering the outskirts of a cloud of debris from Comet Swift-Tuttle.

Once the moon goes down, the dark night sky is a perfect backdrop for stargazing. To find the ´shooting stars´, look for the Milky Way and the constellation of Perseus to the north. Settle back. and just absorb the beautiful sky. Every minute or two, as the dust size meteorites burn up in our atmosphere, you´ll see the brilliant streak in the sky. Yet another reminder that we are part of a far greater universe.
