CDF Crews Battle Two Related Grass Fires

Lake Tulloch, CA — Fire crews from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection fought two related grass fires over the weekend.

CDF spokesman Craig Hart says the first blaze was started at Highway 108 and J-59 near Lake Tulloch just before 2:00 AM Saturday when a big rig tractor and trailer caught fire and spread to the wildland.

Hart says five CDF engines responded along with two fire crews and one water tender. The truck and its contents were a total loss, sustaining about $130,000 in damage.

Hart says crews returned to the same location just after 1:00 Saturday afternoon to fight a grass fire that CHP says was sparked when tow truck operators lifted the still smoldering truck onto a flat bed trailer.

CDF says that fire burned about five acres and caused about $1000 in damage. Eight units responded along with two CDF air tankers.

No injuries were reported in either incident.
