Report: CA Seniors Healthier Than Most

A federal report card says California seniors are healthier than the older residents of most other states — but still need to exercise more often and eat more fruits and vegetables.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says California´s 65-and-older population does a good job getting dental care, vaccinations, mammograms, and colon and rectal screenings. Older Californians also keep their weight down, avoid cigarettes and seek help for psychological problems at rates higher than half the nation.

But even with the good grades, the C-D-C says aging Californians can do better. The C-D-C´s Maggie Moore says the best thing older adults can do is become physically active. She also advises seniors to increase their intake of fruits and vegetables.
