SPI Layoffs Begin

Sierra Pacific Industries announced that the anticipated temporary layoffs will begin at the Sonora (Standard) sawmill today and on Saturday March 26th at the Chinese Camp sawmill.

“We´ve advised our crews that if we have favorable weather conditions in the weeks ahead, we should be able to recall them to work at both mills during the second or third week of April” said company spokesman Ed Bond.

The company announced last month that the layoffs would occur due to a shortage of logs which are used to manufacture lumber and other products.

SPI will pay accrued vacation benefits as well as continue to provide medical benefits to their employees temporarily layed off .
