Witnesses Testify Nesler Was Urged To Stop

Sonora, CA — Witnesses testifying in the murder trial of Willie Nesler say the 23-year-old defendant was urged to stop a beating that resulted in the death of a 45-year-old Sonora man.

Nesler faces first degree murder charges in the death of David Davis after he allegedly beat Davis to death in a dispute over some tools.

In Tuolumne Superior Court yesterday, the witnesses said they called for help in the early morning hours of July 25th when the fatal beating allegedly occurred.

Nesler had reportedly been released from jail just hours earlier after serving time for a previous assault on Davis.

39-year-old Dean Phillips is also on trial accused of helping Nesler with the beating and assisting Nesler in evading authorities.

Testimony in the trial is scheduled to continue today.
