Weekend Robbery In Sonora

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Sheriff´s Department is investigating a Sunday morning robbery at the Sonora Oaks Best Western.

Sgt. Matt Zelinsky says that at approximately 2:50am, a night clerk was allegedly confronted by a Hispanic male. The suspect is described as 5´6″, 165 lbs, and in his 30´s.

The man said something inaudible and then lunged at the clerk with a knife. The clerk proceeded to pick up a fan from the floor and throw it at the suspect. The Clerk then ran towards the back office, and was able to call the Sheriff´s Department.

It was later discovered that $200 was taken from a cash drawer. The suspect did escape. You are encouraged to contact the Tuolumne County Sheriff´s Office with any information.
