San Andreas, CA — Deer season officially opens this Saturday and hunters are sure to fill the upcountry campgrounds along Highway 4.
Calaveras County and a small part of Tuolumne County fall in the D5 hunting zone, which is combined for tallying purposes with zones D3 and 4.
As it was in 2005, this year there were 33,000 tags made available in D3 through 5 by the state Department of Fish and Game. The rest of Tuolumne County is in D6.
Successful hunters must send their validated tag to Fish and Game within 30 days of their kill. The season ends October 29.
Archery season on deer closed September 10.
