State Retirement Board Approves Health Care Premium Increases

Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA — The California Public Employees´ Retirement System´s board has approved premium increases for health care plans covering 1.2 million state and local government employees and retirees.

But the board decided today not to raise patients´ copayments. Health maintenance organization plan premiums will rise an average of 11.6 percent next year, while those for the system´s preferred provider networks will climb nearly 13 percent and Medicare PPO members´ rates will rise almost 7 percent.

A spokeswoman says the board decided against raising copayments for several reasons, including that it would put a greater burden on ill CalPERS members without guaranteeing lower health care costs.
