Fire Season Opens Monday

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Effective 8AM Monday, the California Department of Forestry will officially open the 2006 fire season in the Tuolumne/Calaveras Unit.

All fire stations will be opened and staffed. Helicopter 404 is already in full operation at Columbia Air Attack Base with the Air Attack and two air tankers scheduled to arrive at the base on June 16th.

C.D.F. Unit Chief Fred McVay reminds Mother Lode residents that maintaining 100 feet of defensible space around residences is the single most important step in preparing for wildfire season.

Also effective Monday, June 5, burn hours will be restricted to 7PM to 8AM. Burning is allowed by permit only.
