Me-Wuks Celebrate A Special Occasion

Sponsored by:

Tuolumne City, CA — Today was a day of celebration for two north American tribes; the Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk Indians and the Yavapai Apache Nation from northern Arizona´s mesa verde region.

It was five years ago the Yavapai Apache Nation provided guidance, financial assistance and economic development modeling to the Me-Wuk Indians as they embarked on a plan of economic self-reliance.

Within that five year span, the Me-Wuk Indians have developed a new health center, public security, expanded education, social service and planning and housing departments.

Today the two tribes celebrated their business and personal relationship at Black Oak Casino with an exchange of gifts including a painting and blankets symbolizing their closeness as brothers and sisters.

Me-Wuk Tribal Chairman Kevin Day says there are more plans on the drawing board including a hotel and a golf course. Jamie Fullmer, Tribal Chairman of the Yavapai Apache Nation, says the original business relationship has developed into one of friendship and kinship because both tribes have a common denominator; serving the community in which they are located.
