State Attorneys Ask For Stay In Judge’s Decision

Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA — State attorneys are asking a judge to immediately stay any injunction he issues on the high school exit exam, barring it from taking effect until the state can appeal.

The state attorney general´s office filed the new petition today with Alameda County Superior Court Judge Robert Freedman.

He´s expected to rule later today on whether to suspend the exam, a decision that could affect thousands of students around the state.

Freedman has already said he´s likely to side with students who are suing the state. They say the exam discriminates against poor students and those who are learning English because not all students get an equal education.

This year´s senior class is the first required to pass the English and math test to graduate.
