Sponsored by:

Arnold, CA — Only 2 candidates for the District 3 Supervisor race showed up to a candidates night Wednesday in Arnold.

The community filled the Independence Hall in White Pines, just outside of Arnold, to see incumbent Merita Callaway go head to head with challenger Travis Lauterbach.

Organizers say Jake Wallace, who is also running, chose not to attend.

District 3 covers Ebbetts Pass down to, but not including Murphys.

Each candidate gave prepared opening statements then fielded questions.

Merita Callaway says the community needs to set outrageous goals and work on its vision bit by bit. She says her vision is that of the community, which includes preserving the areas historic charm, enhancing recreation, and breathing life into downtown Arnold.

Travis Lauterbach says the community needs to take a proactive role in shaping the itself. He says to ensure the stability of the current quality of life he would make public safety and roads his primary goals. He also said business development and local parks were important.

The primaries take place June 6.
