A Celebration For Battered Women

Sponsored by:

Soulsbyville, CA — Today will be a day of celebration for a number of battered women and their children throughout Tuolumne County.

A ribbon cutting ceremony at 2PM will highlight the opening of three new modular duplexes in the Soulsbyville area. Funding for the land and the duplexes comes from a combination of state, federal and local grants. Included is a $30,000 grant from the Sonora Area Foundation which will cover operating costs of the duplexes for a three year period.

To qualify for residency, women must have been enrolled in “battered women” or similar programs in any county. They also must have full-time or part-time jobs or be a student.

Agencies and businesses playing a key role in the project include the Mountain Women´s Resource Center, A.T.& T., Soroptimist International of Sonora and Twain Harte, Delta Kappa Gamma alumni sorority, Omega Nu and the Tuolumne County Superintendent of Schools staff. The first family will be moving in a week from Saturday.
