Crime Report Shows Increase For First Time Since 2002

Sacramento, CA — A report released Thursday shows an increase in Homicide, Robbery and Aggravated Assault in California.

Attorney General Bill Lockyer released the Department of Justice´s “Preliminary Report: Crime in 2005, January through September,” showing a 0.8 percent increase in violent crime, and a 3.3 percent increase to property crime compared to the same period in 2004.

Lockyer says California hasn´t seen an increase in the overall number of violent crimes since 2002.

He says that although it is a small increase, it is import for his office and local law enforcement to stay focused on shutting down the sources of crime.

In the violent crime category, forcible rape had the only decrease of 2.7 percent. Arson also decreased by 7.8 percent.
