County Administrator Releases Recommendation For TGH

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors will hear the County Administrator´s recommendation for the future of Tuolumne General Hospital Tuesday.

Brent Wallace released his report yesterday outlining what he feels is the best option for the hospital. Three possible scenarios were provided by the Lewin Group including rebuilding the hospital and operating it as an acute care facility, turning it into a non-acute clinic or closing it down.

In the eight-page report Wallace recommended operation of the hospital as a non-acute facility, calling for the closure of the inpatient psychiatric unit, closure of the skilled nursing facility, and adult day health care.

“I have no personal or professional desire to be the County Administrator to recommend a change in the health care history of Tuolumne County. It is also very important for me to say, clearly and concisely, that any recommendation to change TGH services will result in a decline in the overall health of the residents of Tuolumne County,” said Wallace.

The board will consider approving the March 28th date for a public hearing at its meeting Tuesday. Hear the live broadcast of the meeting beginning at 9am on Mymotherlode.com presented by Blue Mountain Minerals.
