Auto Insurance May Undergo Changes

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA– A new proposal is underway to change state car insurance rates in California.

If the plan is approved it would cause insurers to look at a motorist´s driving record to determine how much each driver would be charged for auto insurance.

Currently, insurance companies determine the rate by looking at where the driver lives. Researchers say those living in urban areas could pay anywhere from $500 to 1,000 more a year due to the high crime and theft rates in the area.

Some counties, if the proposal is passed, may see estimated increases of 25 to 35 percent in insurance rates.

There will be a formal hearing discussing the proposal on February 24th in San Francisco.
